Showing off the capabilities of a new phone to Vodafone customers

The Palm Treo had a lot to get across - calls, messaging, the web and integration with business email.

Screen grab of content for the launch of the Palm Treo

In 2006 Vodafone marketing came to me with a brief to support a major handset launch and promote their business email offerings.

There was a fair bit of information to convey. Because the content management system was inflexible and microsites were off limits, I produced a piece of interactive content in Flash to slot into the main content area of a page.

I worked with marketing and product teams to establish positioning, key messages and calls to action. I also:

  • created a decision tree to help users choose the best email option

  • drafted the content structure, wireframes and functional spec

  • sourced imagery and wrote copy

I liaised with the internal development team to get it built.

We were hit with a major snag. When we published Flash in the page it was the size of a postage stamp. The development guys could not find a fix. We repurposed content to make some static pages.

Was anyone happy with the situation? No. But sometimes stuff happens and you have to keep calm and do the best you can.
